What Does it Mean to Be a Steward?

Today, our parish formally launches our Fall Stewardship Initiative. In modern culture, we are taught to be self-made owners. We work for our money, buy our homes, and protect our assets. But the Gospel presents a radical alternative. In the context of Jesus and His disciples, a steward is a trusted manager of someone else’s property. Everything we possess—our life, our time, our unique talents, and our financial resources—belongs entirely to God. We are merely caretakers. True Christian discipleship begins when we stop asking, "What do I want to do with my money?" and start asking, "Lord, what do You want me to do with the resources You have entrusted to my care?" Over the next ten weeks, our parish will reflect together on how we can better manage our shared gifts to serve our community and stabilize our spiritual home.
